How Easy Is It To “Catfish” A Montanan? The Results Are In
Nobody likes to be taken advantage of, that's a fact. But it really stinks when you are taken advantage of by someone that you cared about...or thought you cared about.
Being scammed is happening more and more throughout the world. With technology taking over more and more every day, we see an increase in dating apps available. With the increase, it is a no-brainer that we will see more and more scams.
I used Social Catfish to get the statistics for Montana.
Most of us know of or have at least heard of the show Catfish on MTV. The show where you find yourself sitting on your couch and screaming at the TV...ok, maybe that's just me.
Need some good news about catfishing? Montanan's don't have time for that BS. When ranked amongst the rest of the United States, Montana is ranked very low for getting "catfished", or should I say "falling for" a romantic scam.
Where did Montana rank and how much money did they lose to a romantic scam?
Even with Montana being ranked lower on the list, the people who did fall victim to a Catfish still lost $2.2 million dollars. This turns out to be an average of a little more than $25k per victim.
There are other reality shows that people claim to be someone they are not and receive different forms of money and gifts, including jewelry and trips.
There are lots of shows that end up having scammers, another example is, 90 Day Fiance. Many of these shows "out" people taking advantage of the other. I won't lie, there are times I watch these shows and think, "How the heck does this person NOT realize they are being lied to?!".
All in all, at the end of the day, you can see from the 2022 stats, Montana is a bit wiser when it comes to getting scammed. We shall see what 2023 brings us, hopefully, we are still toward the bottom of the list.
