Montana’s Birds: Wonderful Backyard Visitors

Maybe it’s just me, but does anyone else find themselves doing things as they get older that they once laughed at in their youth?

For me, it's all about the birds. I never understood why my grandma found so much joy in them, but now that I'm older, I feel a deeper connection to her appreciation for them than I did when she was alive.

Montana’s Diverse Bird Population

Montana is home to a wide variety of birds, but only a few are likely to visit your backyard.

Even more surprising is that the most common bird you see when bird watching out your window is not our state bird.

Montana's state bird is the Western Meadowlark, and it's rarely seen in town, and that's due to them not eating seeds from feeders but relying more on grains and insects.

Birds That Visit Your Seed and Suet Feeders

That's the type of birds we're focusing on today, the birds that will come to eat the seeds and suet you put in the feeders every week.

These types of birds require minimal work, and for the most part will allow you to watch without having to leave the house.

So if you're trying to attract birds to your yard, check out the gallery below to see what types we have and what type of feed is needed to attract them.
