New Federal Funding Will Expand Mental Health Care In Montana

Because of Montana’s massive size and all of our rural communities, getting access to mental health care hasn’t always been easy.

Thankfully, that could start changing thanks to new federal funding headed our way to help expand mental health and substance use treatment services.

Montana Chosen As One Of 10 States For Behavioral Health Funding

Montana is one of just 10 states selected to receive the funding, which is focused on improving behavioral and mental health care across the state.

It’s part of a four-year Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic Medicaid Demonstration Program.

The goal of the program is to help clinics expand services and improve access to care regardless of age, where someone lives, or their ability to pay.

New Mental Health Funding Could Help More Montanans Get Support

Montana, especially in smaller rural towns, has struggled with access to mental health services for years. In a lot of cases, people have had to drive hours just to find the help they need.

That’s a big reason why state officials are excited about this funding, especially as conversations around addiction, suicide prevention, and mental health continue becoming more front and center.

Now, funding alone isn’t going to magically fix everything overnight here in Montana, but for communities that receive the support, it could mean more services, more local access, and hopefully fewer people falling through the cracks when they need help the most.
