TSA Issues New Travel Warning Ahead Of Summer Vacations

Planning a vacation requires more than just picking your destination.

If you are planning to fly to your vacation destination this year, it is important to be aware of the many new changes that affect Montana travelers.

Montana Travelers: You’ll Need This ID To Fly In 2025

The first biggest change is the fact that you have to have your new REAL ID to board your flight.

After years of delays, the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration finally required the use of these new federal identification "Star Cards" starting on May 7, 2025.

Now an airline with flights out of Montana has changed their check-in procedures that are sure to affect your holiday travel plans.

New Airline Rule Could Derail Your Next Montana Flight

United Airlines, with flights in and out of most Montana airports, has changed their check-in times for domestic flights.

This new policy, which went live back on June 3rd, now requires you to be at the airport no less than 45 minutes prior to your flight.

Before this new policy change, you had to check in at least 30 minutes prior to your flight.

Also, one more warning to think about when traveling, and this one comes straight from the TSA Facebook page, as they remind you to not plug your electronic devices into USB charge ports installed in chairs.

Hackers can install malware at USB ports (we’ve been told that’s called “juice/port jacking”). So, when you’re at an airport do not plug your phone directly into a USB port.

The Official 2025 U.S. Government 'Do Not Travel' List

Traveling to unique and exotic places rather than the usual tourist traps can be quite an adventure. However, it's crucial to research your destination thoroughly.

While every trip comes with some risk, requiring you to mind your surroundings and take some precautions, there are some places you should probably avoid because the risks far outweigh the benefits.

The United States government has a convenient website that helps by listing travel advisories they have in place for countries all over the world, ranking the risk from Level 1 through Level 4.

You should NOT travel there if a country is issued a Level 4 advisory. As of May 2025, the countries below are on the 'Do Not Travel' list.
