Where You Are Born Matters
Most parents want their children to stand out, and an unusual name can do just that, but where parents take inspiration from can depend on their location.
Places like Montana, with a very large European population, will have more Eurocentric names, with some indigenous names sprinkled in.
However, in places like New York, with such a large Jewish population, most of the names there will reflect said Jewish heritage.
Some Names Have No Rhyme or Reason
You'll find lots of unusual spellings for common names on our list, such as "Sevyn" for Seven or "Aspyn" for Aspen, which I can understand to a point.
What I can't understand is how a name like "Thang," which is the most unusual name out of Oklahoma, becomes a thing.
When you see all the other odd and unusual names on our list, maybe the names for Montana won't seem so unusual.
