Taylor Sheridan Continues to Cash In on Montana with His 7th Show Set in Montana
I'm just gonna come right out and say it and there are quite a few Yellowstone fans who are not going to like what I'm about to say:
Taylor Sheridan needs to stop making shows based in Montana.
It's one thing to have a hit show like Yellowstone, maybe a spin-off after some solid seasons... but SIX more shows based in Montana? Does Sheridan really love Montana that much or is there another motive behind this many Montana-based shows?
Sheridan Has Seven Shows (and Counting?) Based in Montana
Let's look at his upcoming and previous shows that take place or had Montana as a central plot point according to IMDb:
- Yellowstone (2018-2024)
- 1923 (2022-2025)
- 1883 (2021-2022) - Sure, they were traveling from Texas but we know where they wind up.
- Marshals (2026)
- The Madison (2026)
- The Dutton Ranch (2027)
- 1944 (Pre-Production) - the third prequel to Yellowstone
It's normal for someone to release seven shows in eight years about a place they've never lived in, right?

This weekend, Sheridan will debut the Montana-based show The Madison with the first three episodes debuting this weekend on March 14th. According to the synopsis for the show on IMDb:
A New York family's life unravels after a tragedy; they process their grief while vacationing in rural Montana, where they explore human connection amid their profound sorrow.
Is Sheridan Undermining Yellowstone Fans by Turning His Table Scraps Into "Shows"?
In seeing the trailer and checking out other work done by Sheridan, I'm surprised it isn't more obvious:
This guy is milking his Yellowstone success and continuing to cash in on Montana because of it.
It's almost as if Paramount is forcing him to follow a formula or risk losing his deal.
Don't believe me? Let's look at the plot points of his "new" show that airs this weekend:
- Multi-generational family drama centered on loss, resilience, and rebuilding? We haven't seen that before...🙄
- Strong, complex female lead navigating tragedy and power? Check! But will Sheridan write her out of the show with a sad and heartfelt death? Probably. 😢
- Themes of outsiders arriving in Montana and clashing with the land/lifestyle? NO WAY! 😂
To be fair, The Madison appears to be dealing with more mature themes and less violence so at least no one will be fighting over a ranch in the new show...
...or at least not in the first three episodes.

If You've Seen One Sheridan Show, You've Seen'em All
Don't even get me started on the cookie-cutter trailers Paramount puts out for the shows. They go a little something like this:
- Badass outlaw speaks his mind to a damsel in distress in an open plain with Montana mountains in the back (or perhaps at a "SaLoOn")
- Camera cuts to a random truck exploding (bonus points if it had a trailer attached)
- Cut to horseback riding montage
- A ranching/farming skill or tool being used to bring down a bad guy
- Cut to man wearing black cowboy hat with a Carhartt jacket saying something cheesy like: "That's how we do things around here."
- Titled card in subtle Western-style font with the voiceover: "A new show from Taylor Sheridan only on Paramount Plus!"
Again - these are only my opinions, and I can take it if you don't agree. But, c'mon. Haven't we seen enough of Montana through the eyes of Taylor Sheridan?
Let me know you think HERE and don't worry - all opinions are welcome.
