Do you ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes of a radio show?  Something is said or you may of  heard a comment but can't tell what just happened.  Well, hopefully some of your questions  will be answered here.

There are a lot of moving parts of a radio show.  The control board as seen below has many pods and buttons  that need to be managed depending on who is  talking or what sound bites are being used.

If a pre-recorded interview is being played, different pods will need to be adjusted.  This board is set with four different microphones (the four pods on the left) and are adjusted constantly depending on how loud or quite the speaker is.

There is also the main computer that holds all of the music, commercials and other programs aired during the show.

The computer on the left controls the programs on the show, while the computer on the right handles the live portion. DO NOT use the wrong mouse or keyboard, otherwise.... well, let's just say things can go wrong.

For the morning shows at Central Montana Radio Network, the day starts early. On air  personalities start showing up at 3:30 a.m. and almost everyone is in the building and working by 5:30 a.m. The personalities that have shows later in the day start arriving around 7:15. In other words, it does not matter if it is day light savings time or not, it is dark when we start work each day.

The most light we get in the morning is from the moon as you can see above.

Everyone has a spot and a computer to do our job. We spend several hours each day preparing for the show and of course, several hours doing the show.
