Some Items Recovered in Theft from Heart Butte Fire Station
After the incredible windstorm that moved through Great Falls and central Montana on Wednesday, it makes it just as incredibly easy to see why emergency services are so important to the public in times of need.
Now imagine if our first responders only had a fraction of the equipment that they needed to help residents. That exact scenario has played out for the Heart Butte Fire Hall near Browning, Montana after a weekend theft in early August.
Some Items Recovered in Theft from Heart Butte Fire Station
On August 8, 2026, fire personnel arrived at the Heart Butte Fire Hall to find the rear door had been kicked in and the hall had been ransacked. The perpetrator(s) also damaged some equipment and stole several important items from the department.

A new report from the Blackfeet Fire Department says that with the help of several agencies to include the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Blackfeet Law Enforcment, they have been able to recover some of the smaller items. The agency added that "there is still work to be done and more equipment to recover, (but) we are thankful to see some progress."
Businesses and State Fire Departments Step up to Help Heart Butte
Heart Butte Fire and Blackfeet Fire also acknowledged other fire agencies and businesses that have stepped up with help, tools and more over the past month. In their statement, BFR said "The generosity and support we have received has been overwhelming. In difficult times like this, it reminds us just how strong and caring our communities truly are."
Donations of equipment and more came from as far as Jefferson Valley and the Whitehall, Montana Fire Department.
