The Familiar Sounds of Sirens on the One Ways of Great Falls

For those that live in traffic heavy residential areas such as I do, hearing sirens from various Great Falls agencies is pretty easy to become accustomed to.  And as such, you recognize the different sirens attached to them, even which way they are coming from and towards for a call.

But when you are hearing them and they stop; well, that is never a good sign.  It means something is happening nearby.  Last night, in my home office I heard those exact same sirens blaring, only this time they stopped within a block of my home.

GFFR Quickly Extinguish House Fire on Second Avenue North

Great Falls Fire Rescue received a call at 6:39pm last night, April 14, 2026, to a home at 1309 2nd Avenue North for a second story fire in progress.  Upon arrival, they found smoke and fire coming from the 2nd floor window.  GFFR stated that "Engine 1 initiated an exterior fire attack through a bedroom window to quickly knock down the flames, then transitioned to an interior attack to extinguish the remaining fire".

Occupants of the home were able to escape safely, but informed GFFR that there were still several pets in the home.  Engine 4 arrived with support and began conducting a search of the first floor and basement areas.

Within moments, firefighters were able to locate and rescue several pets safely from the home and return them to the occupants.

Family Displaced; Cause of Fire Officially Released by Great Falls Fire Rescue

In a statement through social media, GFFR said that the fire was determined to be electrical in nature and likely began in the second story bedroom of the home.  As a result, the report stated that:

The fire caused significant damage to the bedroom, with smoke damage extending throughout the second floor. Additional damage occurred to the exterior of the home as a result of the fire and suppression efforts.

The family has unfortunately been displaced from the home at this time and were referred the American Red Cross in Great Falls for assistance.  See more photos of the incident below in our gallery. 👇
