For anyone who has spent any amount of time in Great Falls, you know that there are certain streets and intersections that will see a higher probability of accidents than other routes that can be taken.  We may even steer away from those in our daily routines just to give us peace of mind behind the wheel.  But where are those dangerous intersections that come to mind?

Lets Check The Statistics First

According to a survey done by the Law Montana website, Great Falls ranks 3rd in the state of Montana for intersection crashes.  While there isn't a definitive intersection, the data notes that 10th Avenue South is where most of these occur.  However, after living in the area of the city that I do, I tend to think there are a couple more that might rank high on that list also, and they involve another major street in the Falls.

The Intersection Of 2nd Ave. N & 14th Street

Another Senseless Crash, This Time By Someone Fleeing From Law Enforcement

As I am sitting at my desk this afternoon at my home, the distinctive sound of metal to metal, screeching tires and horns permeated the air once again.  As I reached for my phone to dial authorities to report it, suddenly there were an amazing amount of sirens and police officers converging on the scene.  Someone had been fleeing and again ran a red light at the intersection of 2nd Avenue North and 14th Street.  In the past 20+ years of living on this block, I have lost count of how many times my neighbor has had to replace a fence, how many one way signs have been squashed, or I haven't been able to get to my alley because things were blocked.

Law Enforcement On The Scene In Great Falls, MT

Drive Safe, Buckle Up And Don't Get Distracted!

There isn't a magic cure all for accidents.  They are going to happen.  However, there are cases where intersections are just bad.  In this writer's opinion, I would like to see some sort of data presented on these two intersections, between 14th and 15th Street and 2nd Avenue North.  Less speed?  A warning light before each of the intersections?  I'm not sure, but hearing that sound of crunching metal and screeching tires never gets any easier.  Have you had a bad experience at one of these two intersections?  What part of Great Falls makes you uncomfortable to drive in?  Dive in to our comments section of our social pages, or email me here.  Safe driving everyone!
