This lakeside cabin on Georgetown Lake checks all of our boxes.

Close your eyes and imagine you and your favorite small group of friends or family, enjoying a brilliantly blue-sky day on a cold, clear, Montana lake. Everyone enjoys an awesome day of fun on the water or exploring the surroundings, and by late afternoon everyone retires to a welcoming, lakeside cabin to settle in for the evening.

You and your besties are roasting marshmallows, sharing laughs, and listening to the quiet sound of the lake lapping the shoreline. A zillion stars shine brighter than you've ever noticed before overhead as darkness settles over the lake.

Georgetown Lake is awesome.

Flathead Lake seems to get most of the attention in Montana - much deserved - but there are numerous mountain lakes worth exploring in Montana that are perhaps a little less touristy, like Georgetown Lake in Deer Lodge County, Montana.

More fishing and lounging than swimming, we'd guess.

Near the top of the pass between Anaconda and Phillipsburg, Georgetown Lake is at the apex of one of my favorite road trips. The 2,100-acre lake is deep, clear, and cold, sitting at 6,337 feet elevation in the Pintler Mountains of western Montana.

Guest can (and certainly do) swim at Georgetown Lake, but the water can be numbingly cold until late summer when it warms to frigid cold. Regardless, the backdrop is beautiful.

Find seven friends and rent it for $88 per night/per person.

Okay, so affordable means different things to different people. To me, affordable is not $700 per night, which is approximately what this Airbnb on Georgetown Lake is currently booking for when I looked at dates in early June 2024 (including the cleaning fee and Airbnb fee).

HOWEVER. If I were planning a family get-together, this cabin would be perfect.

With 8 adults (it sleeps up to thirteen) the price becomes a reasonable $88 per person/per night. It would easily accommodate 3 couples and a handful of kids with room to spare. See the listing HERE.
