Montana Loses Top Spot as the Most Patriotic State in the US
You may remember around this time last year that WalletHub named Montana the most patriotic state in the entire country. The study is largely determined by the amount of military and civic engagement that citizens of each state participate in, and Montana ranked incredibly highly in both.
So we took to the top spot one year - and I'm betting we all assumed that we'd be able to hold on to the title for a while. But alas, it was not meant to be.
That's because WalletHub just did the study again, and this time around, Montana is NOT the most patriotic state in the country!
If Montana's Not The Most Patriotic State, Who Is?
Montana dropped down to number two on the list, and the state that beat us was... Alaska!
You can find all the details at WalletHub's page, where they really go in depth about how they determined the ranking. One interesting thing to note: Montana actually ranked Number One in Civic Engagement across the board; it was our Military Engagement that brought us down, where we ranked at number 22.
On the flip side of things, Alaska was actually Number One in the country for Military Engagement, and number 12 for Civic Engagement - so they pulled a bit of a higher average than we did.
So Montana is no longer the most patriotic state in the US. And if I had to pinpoint the culprit, I'd say it's because the Southgate Mall fireworks in Missoula for the fourth of July have been cancelled, and people were really bummed about it.
Ok, it probably wasn't that, but let's bring them back to see if we can reclaim our top spot!
