There is something special about finding a place where you can get together with your friends, have a comfortable conversation, and maybe enjoy an adult beverage.  No wonder the television show Cheers was such a hit. It captured the feeling of a bar where you felt like "everyone knows your name".

Montana's Best Hidden Bar

There are a lot of places like that in Montana. Some are well known that have big signs and parking lots. Others aren't so easy to find. They may be a bit hidden. One such bar in Montana has just made a list of the "Best Hidden Bars In Every State" according to Cheapism.

Charlie B's

"Charlie B's" in Missoula has made this list. It is located in the heart of downtown, at 428 N. Higgins. There's no big sign out front and no parking lot. If you are walking down Higgins, you wouldn't know it was there, unless the door is open. It deserves this recognition. "Charlie's" is a very special place, just ask any of the people who have spent some time there over the years. I, personally, have been lucky enough to know some of their employees and some of the "regulars". They feed people on St. Patrick's Day and Thanksgiving. They also have a "hidden" restaurant inside the establishment.

Before it became Charlie B's it was called Eddie's Club. There was a photographer who worked at Eddie's Club and took photographs of some of the regulars. His name was Lee Nye, and his photographs still adorn the walls to this day. There's a book of those photographs that was published in 2020, titled "A Corner of Space and Time: Lee Nye's Eddie's Club Portraits" and it is amazing.

Charlie B's Is Special

A big reason why Charlie's is special, to me, is that is where I met my wife. Charlie B's may be "hidden" but if you take the time to go there, you will find a rich history and, who knows, maybe a chance encounter with your future spouse.
